Wildcats win battle against Wolves

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
– The Western Oregon volleyball team won the opening set against Chico State, but ended dropping the next three, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-12, to fall in its second match at the Cal State San Bernardino Invite.

The loss dropped the Wolves to 0-2 on the season, while evening the Wildcats' record at 1-1.

Danielle Reese led Western Oregon in kills for the second straight match with 16. She had those 16 kills on just 41 swings (four errors) for a .293 hitting percentage. Krissi Kemper also posted a strong offensive game. She had a season-high 11 kills on 21 swings and just three errors for a .381 hitting percentage.

LesLyne Satele added a career-high 37 assists, and Corynn Kopra led the Wolves with 12 digs. Kemper, Becky Blees and Samantha Ward each had five blocks to pace the squad.

The Wolves came out strong with a .333 hitting percentage in the first set. They held Chico State to a .057 mark in the opening set, as the Wildcats had only 10 kills compared to eight errors.

Western Oregon's fortunes would turn after that as the Wildcats outhit them each of the next three sets to earn the win.

The Wolves will be back in action tomorrow for a pair of matches to close out the Cal State San Bernardino Invite. They take on Cal State Los Angeles at noon and Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5:00 p.m.
