Wolves defeat Toros for first win

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
– The Western Oregon volleyball ball team got in the win column today with a 25-20, 19-25, 25-17 and 26-24, victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in its final match of the Cal State San Bernardino Invitational.

The Wolves (1-3) got 16 kills from Danielle Reese and 11 from Krissi Kemper. LesLyne Satele added a career-high 46 assists and Cally Young a season-best 14 digs. Reese led all scorers in the match with 21.5 points.

The key for each team was winning the hitting percentage in each set. The Wolves outhit the Toros .276-.188 in the first set, .147-.031 in the third and .324-.306 in the fourth.

“We had some things that we had to work on, and it was tough to do early in the season against quality teams,” explained Western Oregon head coach Brad Saindon. “I feel we are still a very good team and I am looking forward to getting back to work.”

The Wolves next contest will be its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener. Western Oregon will travel to Alaska Anchorage to take on the Seawolves on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 8:00 p.m. (PST)
