Volleyball sweeps UAA for third straight victory

Samantha Ward leads the way with 13 kills as Wolves sweep Seawolves.

Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska  Samantha Ward had 13 kills to lead the Western Oregon volleyball team to its third straight victory as the Wolves swept Alaska Anchorage, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21), in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday night. With the win, WOU improved to 14-5 overall, 7-3 in league play, as the Seawolves fell to 13-6 on the season, 8-3 in conference action.

WOU found itself down 23-21 in the opening set; however, the Wolves managed to rattle off the next four points to secure the opening set win. With Hannah Deede serving, Krissi Kemper recorded a pair of kills while Ward added a kill and a block to spur a 4-0 run for the Wolves as WOU won the first set, 25-21.

An 8-0 run helped the Wolves secure the win in the second set as WOU rattled off eight-straight points with Danielle Reese serving at 7-8. Becky Blees had three kills during the deciding run as WOU would go on to win the set by the score of 25-19.

WOU would manage to build a six-point lead in the third and deciding set as Deede would close out the victory with a service ace to give the Wolves the season sweep over UAA.

The Wolves managed to hit .321 for the contest as the WOU defense held UAA to a hitting percentage of just .188 for the night.

Blees led the defensive effort with four blocks as Jordin Ramos recorded 11 digs for the Wolves.

Ward's 13 kills led all players as Reese and Blees each added nine kills for WOU.

WOU will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 25, as the Wolves return home to host Western Washington at 7:00 p.m.
