MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team looks to extend its winning streak to four games as the Wolves return to action when they open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play in Bellingham, Wash., on Thursday, Nov. 29, against No. 8 Western Washington at 7:00 p.m. Following the contest against the Vikings, WOU will conclude the week when it travels to Burnaby, B.C., to face Simon Fraser on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5:15 p.m.
The Wolves enter with a mark of 4-2 on the season as WOU has won three straight after capturing the Capital City Classic title last week. WOU defeated Willamette and Corban to capture the tournament crown as sophomore
Dana Goularte was named the tournament's most valuable player after averaging 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Freshman
Mariah Durian leads three WOU players in double figures as the forward is averaging 14.5 points per game. Goularte is averaging 14.0 points per game while leading the team with 8.0 rebounds per contest as senior guard
Lorrie Clifford is pouring in 13.8 points per contest.
The Wolves are averaging 69.0 points per game while shooting 39.0 percent on the floor as WOU is limiting opponents to just 62.7 points per contest and 36.2 percent from the field.
Western Washington, picked to win the conference title and ranked No. 8 nationally, enters the contest against the Wolves with a perfect 4-0 mark after defeating Carroll and Evergreen State last week. Britt Harris leads the way at 15.3 points per game as WWU is outscoring opponents by nearly 20.0 points per game.
Simon Fraser opens conference play with a 6-1 mark as the Clan swept a pair of contests from Cal State Stanislaus last week. Picked to finish second in GNAC preseason poll, the Clan are led by Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe, who is leading the team with 15.7 points per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the floor.
Following the conference openers, the Wolves will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12, when the Wolves travel to Vallejo, Calif., to take on Cal Maritime at 6:00 p.m.
