Women's Hoops unable to overcome No. 16 SFU

Wolves fall to Clan in GNAC contest.

BURNABY, B.C. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive contest to a nationally-ranked opponent as the Wolves fell to No. 16 Simon Fraser, 80-38, in action on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU fell to 4-4 overall, 0-2 in league play while SFU improved to 8-1 on the season, 2-0 in conference action.

The Wolves would be unable to get anything going offensively against one of the league's preseason favorites as the Wolves shot just 26.2 percent from the field (16-of-61). Amber Reade led the Wolves with 10 points as Mariah Durian came off the bench to score eight for WOU.

Despite the loss, freshman Whitney Rodriguez had her best game of the season as the forward scored eight points while leading all players with 14 rebounds.

Simon Fraser was led by Nayo, Raincock-Ekunwe, who finished the night with 16 points while going a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor. Kia Van Laare came off the bench for the Clan and led all players with 18 points.

SFU had four players score in double figures as the Clan went 33-of-65 from the field and held a decided advantage at the break.

WOU will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12, when the Wolves travel to Vallejo, Calif., to face Cal Maritime at 6:00 p.m.
