Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team was unable to respond to a first-half run by the Academy of Art as the Wolves fell to the Urban Knights, 81-53, in action on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, WOU falls to 5-5 on the season while the Academy of Art improves to 8-2.
Freshman forward
Mariah Durian led the Wolves in the loss as she led three WOU players in double figures with 15 points. The Wolves were unable to get into an offensive rhythm throughout the contest as WOU was held to 16-of-46 from the field.
Dana Goularte went 4-of-9 from the floor to finish the afternoon with 12 points as
Melissa Fowler added 10 for the Wolves in a losing effort. The Wolves out-rebounded the Urban Knights, 36-34, as Durian and
Amber Reade each grabbed eight boards.
The Urban Knights grabbed control of the contest midway through the first half, building a 21-11 lead with eight minutes remaining. WOU would be unable to mount a serious comeback the rest of the way as the Wolves fell to the Academy of Art for the second straight season.
Ariel Dale led the Urban Knight attack, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds as the Academy of Art shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the floor in the victory.
WOU will return to action on Monday, Dec. 17, as the Wolves host Simpson in a non-conference contest at 2:00 p.m.
