Bats lead Wolves to big win over Saint Martin's

LEWISTON, Idaho
- Western Oregon pounded out 23 hits and scored in all but two innings en route to a 19-2 win over Saint Martin's in the first game of the Inland Cellular Tournament on Friday, Feb. 17.

David Amberson quickly adjusted to his new role of leadoff hitter for the Wolves (8-2) as he went 2-for-4 with five runs batted in, which included a grand slam as part of an eight-run Wolves' sixth inning. AJ Royal also took hold of his new fifth spot in the batting order by going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Blake Miller tied the GNAC's single-game doubles record with three two-baggers and Griff Boyd went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Michael Gange also recorded two RBI.

Grady Wood (3-0) won his third start of the year, and 11th straight dating back to last season, as he went seven innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking just one.

After falling behind 1-0 after the first, WOU came back to score three in the second, one in the fourth and three in the fifth before breaking the game open with eight runs in the sixth. They would add single runs in the seventh and eighth for the final margin of vicotry.

Eleven of the Wolves' 23 hits went for extra bases and every starter had at least one hit.

Western Oregon will now take on tournament hosts and NAIA national powerhouse Lewis-Clark State at 4:00 p.m.
