MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves travel to Nampa, Idaho, to face Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:00 p.m. before closing out the season in Ellensburg, Wash., with a game against Central Washington on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
Winners of two-of-three, Western Oregon enters the week in seventh-place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings after the Wolves defeated Alaska Fairbanks, 90-81, before falling to nationally-ranked Alaska-Anchorage last week. Junior guard
Lorrie Clifford led the way with a career-high 28 points in the victory over the Nanooks.
Senior
Rylee Peterson continues to lead the Western Oregon attack as the forward ranks fifth in the league in scoring at 15.7 points per game. Guard
Jade Haas ranks second on the squad at 10.3 points per game while
Melissa Fowler is averaging 8.2 points per contest for the Wolves.
Northwest Nazarene enters the week with a mark of 15-9 overall, 9-7 in league play, after the Crusaders defeated Simon Fraser, 71-67, to close out action last week. Briaunna King leads four NNU players in double figures, averaging 15.9 points per game.
Central Washington currently stands at 8-16 in league play, 4-12 in conference, after falling to Simon Fraser and Western Washington last week. Jessica VanDyke leads three Wildcats in double figures as she averages 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Western Oregon captured this year's earlier meetings between the schools, defeating Northwest Nazarene, 57-46, while picking up a 77-61 victory over the Wildcats.
