ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
- Grady Wood gave up just an unearned run over eight innings and the Wolves' offense provided him with two four-run innings to earn a 10-1 win in the series opener against Sonoma State.

Wood dominated the 2011 West Region Champions throughout the game. He allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five to pick up his 10th straight win dating back to last season. He got 14 of the 24 outs he recorded via the groundball, and he allowed just two runners to reach third base all game.

The only time Wood allowed two hits in an inning was in the third when the Seawolves (1-1) scored their only run of the game. After the first out was recorded, the next two batters singled and the lead runner eventually scored on an error.

Meanwhile, the Wolves' (4-1) bats were alive throughout the game, as they pounded out 11 hits, including five extra base knocks. AJ Royal, Quinn Naughtin and Griff Boyd each knocked in two runs and had a home run, while Matt Nylen led everyone with three hits.

The first of the Wolves' four-run innings came in the second. Naughtin homered to drive in Scott David and, WOU would get another on a Royal double and a wild pitch.

The second came in the fifth inning. Royal homered to lead off the inning, then WOU got an RBI groundout from Bo Folkinga, and back-to-back RBI singles from Boyd and Nylen to extend the score to 8-1.

Gary Steindorf pitched a perfect ninth in his Wolves debut to seal the win.

Western Oregon and Sonoma State will continue their series on Thursday (Feb. 9) with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
