ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - It this point it is looking as though California will be happy to get of it Wolf problem, as the Western Oregon baseball team went into Sonoma State and swept a doubleheader from the Seawolves, 9-1 and 7-1, on Thursday (Feb. 9).

Western Oregon (6-1) has now taken the first three games of the five-game series from the defending NCAA West Region champions by the score of 26-3. This is also the Wolves best start to a season since 2005 when they started 7-0 out of the gates. Sonoma State is now 1-3 on the season.

Game 1
Western Oregon's starting pitcher Jason Wilson didn't have to worry about run in this game as the Wolves put six runs on the board before Wilson even threw a pitch en route to the 9-1 win.

Those runs would be all Wilson (1-1) would need as he struck out 10 batters in seven innings while allowing just four hits and the lone run. Wilson seemed to pick up momentum as the game carried on. He retired the final 10 batters he faced, with six of those coming via the strike out.

The Wolves would hit around in the first inning to record their highest scoring inning of the season to date. Grant Mascolo got the scoring started for WOU with a two-run single to drive in Eric Copenhagen and Blake Miller. Griff Boyd, Kyle Blackwell, Matt Nylen would each add run scoring hits and Boyd would come home on a throwing error to make it 6-0 WOU after the top of the first.

Vince Ampi, who was making the start at designated hitter, went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Blackwell also had two hits and Miller added two runs scored.

The Wolves' bullpen also hurled two scoreless innings.

Game 2
Travis Bradshaw continues to shine in his role as a starter as he threw a complete game to lead WOU to the 7-1 win in game two of the doubleheader.

The 6-7 right hander went seven innings allowing just one earned run and six hits while striking out a career-high seven.

Blake Miller had three hits, and Bo Folkinga and Scott David added two hits apiece as the Wolves outhit Sonoma State 11-6. Folkinga and Josh Solemsaas each knocked in two runs.

The game was tied at 0-0 going into the fifth then the Wolves exploded for six runs in the inning as they would hit around for the second time of the afternoon. Solemsaas got the scoring started with a one-out, two-run single to left. WOU would add another two runs a whacky play stemming from a strike out of Ethan Flory. After the Flory struck out swinging the ball got away from the catcher and Flory raced down to first base. Sonoma's catcher tried to throw Flory out at first by his throw sailed down the right field line allowing Solemsaas and Flory to both come in and score. Folkinga capped off the inning's scoring with a two-run double.
