MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Wolves reaped the benefits of sweeping Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals Northwest Nazarene in a four-game series last weekend, as both
Grady Wood and
Matt Nylen received conference weekly honors.
Wood was named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week after his three-hit, shutout of No. 10 regionally ranked Northwest Nazarene. The senior right-hander from Junction City, Ore. (Junction City HS) needed just 79 pitches to get through the nine inning game. He induced 15 groundball outs and struck out six Crusaders to improve to 5-0 on the season. Two of NNU's three hits were infield singles, and between the Crusaders' second and third hits Wood retired 12 straight batters.
Matt Nylen was the Wolves' big run producer over the weekend en route to earning GNAC Pitcher of the Week honors. The junior outfielder from Damascus, Ore. (Clackamas HS), went 6-for-13 with six RBI on the weekend. He raised his season average 35 points over the weekend as he had at least one hit in all four contests.
The Wolves are off this weekend but will continue GNAC play on Saturday, Mar. 24 at Central Washington.
