Grady Wood and
Travis Bradshaw each gave Western Oregon strong starting performances to help the Wolves clinch at least a tie for their 11th straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship with a doubleheader sweep of Central Washington. 8-0 and 9-4, on Saturday, Apr. 28.
The Wolves have now won 18 straight games at home and are 18-2 in the GNAC (29-8 overall). The losses dropped CWU to 16-24 on the season and to 8-14 in the GNAC.
Game 1
Grady Wood (10-0) pitched a complete game shutout on just 84 pitches to lead Western Oregon to the 8-0 win in game one. He gave up just four hits while striking out six, and allowed only one runner to reach third base all game.
Brady Locker delivered the big hit for the Wolves in the opener as he took a sixth inning delievery down the left field line for a two-run homer. Locker, Mike Gange and
Matt Nylen each drove in two runs for WOU. The RBIs for both Gange and Nylen came as part of a six-run eighth inning rally for Western Oregon which put the game out of reach.
Blake Miller and
Bo Folkinga had two hits apiece to help Western Oregon outhit CWU 9-4.
Game 2
Travis Bradshaw (8-1) picked up his eighth win of the season by throwing a complete game and allowing seven hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out five.
Bradshaw took a shutout into the seventh inning before CWU rallied for four runs behind two WOU errors, its only runs of the afternoon.
Bradshaw had a lead to work nearly the whole game as Western Oregon put up three in the first and one in the second.
Bo Folkinga hit his GNAC-leading 10th home run as part of the first inning rally, and finished the game 3-for-4 with that homer, two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.
Brady Locker also posted three hits in four at bats to go along with a double and two runs scored.
AJ Royal and
Kyle Blackwell each registered multiple hit and RBI games, while Miller also collected two singles.
Next games
The final homestand for Western Oregon will continue on Sunday, Apr. 29 against Central Washington starting at Noon. The Wolves will then complete their home schedule on Wednesday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. with a makeup doubleheader against Saint Martin's.
