Eight Wolves earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors

- Five women and three men from the Western Oregon track & field team earned their place onto the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team for the 2012 outdoor season. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three during the 2012 outdoor season have earned All-Region distinction.

Ashley Potter and Amanda Schumaker, who will both be representing Western Oregon at the NCAA National Championships this weekend (May 24-26), paced the Wolves by placing second in their respective events in the West Region.

Schumaker's throw of 158-11 (48.43m) earned her an NCAA auto qualifying standard and placed her third in Division I this season. She will be attempting to become a three-time All-American in the javelin this Saturday (May 26) when she competes in the Division II championships at 1:50 p.m.

Potter also gained entry into Nationals with an NCAA auto qualifying standard. The senior from Springfield, Ore. (Thurston HS) leaped 40-9 (12.42m) in the women's triple jump to enter Nationals with the ninth-best mark in Division II this season. The women's triple jump final at Nationals will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.

Seabre Church, Katie Pelchar and Janelle Everetts each recorded the fourth-best mark in the region. Church recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 142-1 (43.31m) in the javelin to earn the right to join Schumaker at Nationals. Katie Pelchar cleared 5-7 (1.70m) in the women's high jump to earn her own NCAA provisional standard. Janelle Everetts' time of 2:12.63 in the 800m also earned her an NCAA provisional mark.

Dan Sprinkle paced the three men's selections. His time of 9:00.94 in the men's 3000m steeple chase ranked him second in the region and 15th in the country. Sprinkle will compete in the prelims of the 3000m steeple chase on Thursday (May 24) at 7:10 p.m.

Chris Olsen and Matson Hardie both joined Sprinkle on the USTFCCCA All-West Region team after finishing fifth in their respective events. Olsen ran a time of 1:51.99 in the 800m to rank fifth in the region with an NCAA provisional standard. Hardie posted a mark of 24-1 (7.34m) in the long jump for the fifth-longest mark in the country this season.

The Wolves will have four members of the team, Dan Sprinkle, Ashley Potter, Seabre Church and Amanda Schumaker, competing in the NCAA National Championships this weekend (May 24-26) in Pueblo, Colo.
