BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Oregon volleyball team saw its five-game win-streak snapped at the hands of No. 17 Western Washington as the Wolves fell to the Vikings, 21-25, 23-25, 23-25, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU fell to 10-3 overall, 3-1 in league play as WWU improved to 12-2 overall, 5-1 in league play.
Danielle Reese led all players with 20 kills; however, she was the only WOU player with double-digit kills as WWU used 16 kills from Marlayna Geary and 11 from Kayla Erickson to pick up the straight-set victory.
After hitting .333 in the first set, the Wolves only managed a hitting percentage of .102 and .211 in the second and third sets, respectively, as WOU could not break out against a tough Vikings defense.
The WOU defense kept the Wolves in the match as the Vikings hit .227 for the match as
Becky Blees continued her solid defensive play, leading all players with five block assists on the night.
Krissi Kemper added six kills while
Megan Triggs had 16 digs to lead the Wolves in a losing effort.
Samantha Hutchinson led the WWU defense with a game-high 20 digs.
WOU will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, as the Wolves host Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m.
