HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Western Oregon volleyball team opened its Hawaii road trip with a four-set victory over Hawaii Pacific, 25-25, 25-17, 22-25 and 26-24, on Thursday, Sept. 6.
Krissi Kemper hit .321 with 12 kills and just three errors on 28 swings. Fellow middle blocker
Becky Blees had 6.5 blocks to lead a Wolves' (4-1) squad which had 17 stuffs in the match.
Danielle Reese posted a double-double with a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs.
Western Oregon opened the match with a hard fought 25-23 victory in the first set. The Wolves made a furious comeback in the set by scoring seven of the final eight points for the win.
The Wolves would then put together the first hitting perfect set in recent memory. The team hit .500 in the set with 13 kills and no errors in 26 attempts. Reese had five of the Wolves' 13 kills in the set.
WOU's fortunes would not be as good in set three as it was outhit .158 to .000. The Wolves bounced back with another close win in the fourth set. Western Oregon was down 24-23 but received kills from
Samantha Ward and Reese to go along with an HPU hitting error to earn the match victory.
"This was a great win in a tough gym," said Western Oregon head coach
Brad Saindon. "It is tough to win in any sport in Hawaii and this was a great for us to get the win tonight."
The Wolves will once again be tested in the Aloha state when they face Chaminade on Friday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 p.m. (PST).
