MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves return to conference play when they host Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 7:00 p.m. followed by a meeting with Montana State Billings on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1:00 p.m.
WOU is looking to break a three-game losing skid as the Wolves enter the week with a record of 5-7 overall, 0-2 in league play, after falling to Northwest Christian in overtime last week.
The Wolves continue to be led by freshman
Mariah Durian as the forward leads the team at 14.0 points per game.
Lorrie Clifford (12.6 points per game) and
Dana Goularte (12.0 points per game) are the other WOU players in double figures as the Wolves are averaging 63.6 points per contest.
Defensively, WOU continues to do a solid job, holding opponents to just 39.3 percent from the field and 67.5 points per game. Goularte continues to lead the defensive effort as she leads the team in rebounds (6.9 per game), blocks (15) and steals (31).
Seattle Pacific enters the week with a mark of 8-2 overall, 2-0 in league play, after a win over Dixie State last week. The Falcons are led by Katie Benson as the forward is averaging 15.0 points per game. Four SPU players are scoring in double figures as the Falcons are averaging 75.4 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
Montana State Billings is riding a six-game win streak into the week as the Yellowjackets enter with a mark of 8-2 overall, 2-0 in league play after a win over Rocky Mountain two weeks ago. MSUB is led by Bobbi Knudsen, who is averaging 18.0 points per game while Kayleen Goggins averages 11.5 points per contest for the Yellowjackets. Defensively, MSUB is holding opponents to 40.0 percent from the floor and just 61.9 points per game.
Last season, WOU split a pair of games with Seattle Pacific while dropping two contests to Montana State Billings.
Admission to each contest is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors while current WOU students are admitted for free with a valid identification card.
Following this week's games, the Wolves will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 10, when the Wolves travel to Nampa, Idaho, to take on Northwest Nazarene at 6:00 p.m.
