Wolves' Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Thriller

SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University volleyball team edged Western Oregon University in a five-set thrilling match Thursday, 24-26, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, and 15-10.

The Falcons (8-8, 4-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) improved to 3-1 this season at home. The back-and-forth match featured 30 ties and 11 lead changes. The first set had 16 ties and 11 lead changes. SPU finished with a .174 attack percentage, while Western Oregon had a .173 percentage. The Wolves held a slim 60-56 edge in terminations, but had 32 attack errors, while Seattle Pacific had 29. Western Oregon had 11 service errors, and SPU had seven.

Madi Cavell was one of three Falcons that finished in double-digit kills. She had a match-high 15, while adding 16 digs for the double-double performance. Nikki Lowell and Jackie Arnold had 14 and 10 kills. Kendall Langdon and Sara Biondi combined for 45 of SPU's 51 assists. Arnold had nine block assists and Cavell had eight block assists.

Western Oregon's (5-13, 2-6 GNAC) Hannah Deede and Krissi Kemper both had 12 kills. Kemper finished with a .526 hitting percentage. Jordin Ramos finished with a double-double of 23 assists and 12 digs. Erin Dobson dished out 21 assists, and Megan Triggs had a match-high 20 digs. Deede was also in on seven blocks. Becky Blees is now 19 block assists away from Northwest Nazarene's Cammy Dranginis' four-year-old record of 367 in a career. Blees had five against SPU Thursday.

The Wolves travel to Montana State Billings (3-13, 1-7) for a 7 p.m. Mountain Time match Saturday. WOU has dropped the past five matches, while the Yellowjackets have lost four straight. Western Oregon has won three straight matches over MSU Billings, including the last meeting a three-set victory in Billings. The Wolves have a 12-4 all-time advantage over MSUB.
