Volleyball unable to overcome Alaska Anchorage

Wolves fall to Seawolves, 3-0.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Western Oregon volleyball team was unable to stop Alaska Anchorage's strong start to the season as the Wolves fell to the Seawolves, 3-0 (17-25, 23-25, 18-25), in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night. With the loss, WOU falls to 5-9 overall, 2-2 in league play, while UAA improves to 11-6 overall, 5-0 in conference action.

Becky Blees led the Wolves in the loss as the middle blocker led WOU with nine blocks while hitting .444. She added two blocks as the Wolves managed to hit .124 during the match.

UAA was not outstanding on the offensive end; however, managed to hit .231 against the defensive-minded Wolves with Julia Mackey and Katelynn Zanders leading the way with 11 kills.

Defensively, UAA was led by Quinn Barker as she recorded 15 digs.

WOU will close out the weekend when the Wolves travel to face Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Oct. 5. At 2:00 p.m.
