MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team had three players finish the afternoon with double-digit kills; however, it was not enough as the Wolves fell to Alaska Fairbanks, 3-1 (19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 21-25) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, WOU falls to 5-10 overall, 2-3 in league play.
Kelsie Christensen and
Hannah Deede led the way for WOU with 11 kills apiece; however, a usually stout Wolves defense was unable to overcome a strong UAF attack. The Nanooks hit .327 for the contest, led by Sam Harthun, who finished the match with 17 kills.
After dropping the first two sets, WOU attempted to mount a rally by winning set three; however, the Nanooks captured the match by breaking an 18-18 tie in the fourth set with a 7-3 run.
Becky Blees added 10 kills for WOU while adding a pair of blocks. Meanwhile,
Megan Triggs had six digs to lead WOU defensively while
Erin Dobson led the Wolves with 22 assists.
Kately Camp had 37 assists to lead UAF while adding nine digs. Camp led all players with six blocks as the Nanooks held WOU to a .226 attack percentage.
WOU will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 10, as the Wolves host Simon Fraser at 7:00 p.m.
