Western Oregon got out to an early 11-4 lead, but ART responded with a 14-2 run. An O'Brien jumper with 5:33 left in the half gave the Knights a 23-16 advantage. The Wolves closed the half strong and led 32-29 at halftime.
The game was tied at 44 midway through the second half, when Academy of Art broke the contest open. The Knights scored 17 of the next 19 points over a seven-minute span to pull away. The Wolves made only one of their seven shots during the stretch.
"We played a solid 32 minutes but lost some momentum down the stretch," WOU Head Coach
Holli Howard-Carpenter said. "We struggled with their zone but made some adjustments and were able to get open looks that just didn't fall for us. Chantel and Elise (Miller) were solid tonight and Katie (Goddard) and Leah (Nicklason) gave us great minutes off the bench. That's what I love about this team, anyone can step up at any time. Last night it was Dana, today it was Chantel."
Western Oregon (0-2) was outrebounded, 37-30, in the game.
Chantel Divilbiss led the Wolves with 17 points. She was 7-for-17 from the field.
Dana Goularte led WOU with nine rebounds.
"Overall, I thought we played hard and learned a lot about ourselves as a team this weekend," Howard-Carpenter said. "We'll watch some film and get back at it next week and continue to get better."
The Wolves play their next five games at home, beginning Saturday against Pacific Lutheran at 2 p.m. There will be live video and stats from the game on WOUWolves.com.
