BURNABY, B.C. – Western Oregon University volleyball student-athlete,
Becky Blees, broke the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-time record for block assists in a career in a five-set WOU win at Simon Fraser University Saturday.
The senior has amassed 370 block assists since here freshman season in 2010. She entered the match tied with Northwest Nazarene alum Cammy Dranginis' four-year-old record of 367.
The Wolves (9-15, 6-8 GNAC) battled with Simon Fraser in the match. After winning the first set, 25-21, WOU had to battle back from two straight set losses. Western Oregon won the fourth and fifth sets, 25-23 and 15-11. Blees was one of four WOU players to finish with double-digit kills. She had 10 terminations with a .421 attack percentage. Blees also had a pair of service aces.
Hannah Deede added 12, while
Christie Colasurdo and
Cherene O'Hara both had 11. Colasurdo completed a double-double with 16 digs.
Megan Triggs hada match-high 28 digs.
Jordin Ramos had 10 digs and a match-high 30 assists.
The Clan had a .213 to .199 attack percentage advantage. SFU had 10.5 team blocks, while Western Oregon had seven. Simon Fraser committed 11 service errors. The Clan won the second set, 25-22, and the third set, 25-23.
Kelsey Robinson led all players with 23 kills for SFU (10-10, 5-9). Amanda Renkema had 14 kills, while Madeline Hait added 13. Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury and Tamara Nipp combined for 50 of the Clan's 62 assists. Four Simon Fraser players ended in double-digit digs led by Alison McKay's 22. Alanna Chan also had 21. Hait was in on six blocks. Helen Yain had two service aces.
The Wolves return to Monmouth for their final two home matches of the regular season. Western Oregon welcomes Montana State Billings Thursday and Seattle Pacific Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Both matches will also have live video and stats on WOUWolves.com. There will also be a live broadcast on KWVT throughout the Willamette Valley.
