Women's Hoops falls to Saint Martin's, 58-53

The Wolves held Saint Martin's to just 36.4 percent from the field in the close conference loss.

LACEY, Wash. – Whitney Rodriguez recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds; however, it would not be enough as the Western Oregon women's basketball team fell to Saint Martin's, 58-53, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday. With the loss, WOU fell to 8-16 overall, 3-11 in conference action.

Melissa Fowler led three WOU players in double figures with 12 points while Amber Reade added 10 points for the Wolves.

Saint Martin's built a 34-29 halftime lead and led the entire second half, holding off a WOU run as the Wolves cut the Saints lead to two at 47-45 with 4:40 remaining.

Chelsea Haskey led the Saints with 18 points as the Wolves held SMU to just 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the floor.

WOU shot 43.6 percent from the field (24-of-55); however, committed 27 turnovers as the Saints held a 23-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

WOU will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21, when the Wolves travel to face Alaska Fairbanks at 6:15 p.m.
