ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Western Oregon women's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow offensive start against Alaska Anchorage as the Wolves fell to the Seawolves, 61-41, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night. With the loss, WOU fell to 8-18 on the season, 3-12 in league play while UAA improved to 16-9 overall, 10-7 in conference action.
Neither team would be able to find much of a rhythm in the first half as the Sealwolves managed to hold a 25-19 lead at the break. The Seawolves would put the game away; however, with an 11-2 run to open the second half as the Wolves would be unable to get within single digits the rest of the way.
The Seawolves did their damage on the defensive end of the floor as WOU shot 18-of-55 (32.7 percent) from the floor for the contest. UAA also had a decided advantage in points off of turnovers as the Seawolves outscored WOU in the category, 26-13.
Mariah Durian came off the bench to lead WOU with 11 points while
Kelsey Henry added nine points for the Wolves on 4-of-6 from the field.
WOU had a strong night on the defensive end, holding UAA to just 21-of-54 from the field (38.9 percent) as Alysa Horn led the Seawolves with 20 points on 6-of-18 from the field.
WOU will look to rebound from the road trip when the Wolves return to action on Thursday, Feb. 28, when they host Simon Fraser at 7:00 p.m.
