MONMOUTH, Ore.- The Western Oregon women's basketball team returns to action this week as the Wolves close out the season at home against a pair of nationally-ranked teams, hosting No. 11 Simon Fraser on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 p.m. followed by the season finale against No. 8 Western Washington on Saturday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m.
The contest against the Vikings on Saturday will mark the final contest in a WOU uniform for senior guard
Lorrie Clifford as she ends her career among the Wolves all-time leaders since the move to NCAA Division II. Clifford ranks in the top five in school history in games started (1st, 107), games played (t-1st, 111), points (4th, 833), three-point field goals made (4th, 86) and assists (2nd, 239) heading into her final two career contests.
Freshman forward
Mariah Durian continues to lead the Wolves in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game while Clifford also averages double figures (11.6 ppg) while leading the team in assists. As a team, the Wolves average 61.7 points per contest.
On the defensive end, sophomore forward
Dana Goularte continues to be the leader, leading WOU in rebounds (5.9 per game), steals (2.2 per game) and blocks (25).
The Wolves enter the week with an overall record of 8-18 and a Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) record of 3-11 following losses last week at Alaska Fairbanks and Alaska Anchorage.
No. 11 SFU enters the week with a record of 20-4 overall and 13-3 in GNAC play as the Clan have won seven of their past eight following victories over Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene last week.
Senior forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe leads the Clan in points (16.6 ppg), rebounds (12.8 per game) and steals (1.9 per game) as SFU averages 71.2 points per game as a team while giving up 55.6 ppg to opponents.
No. 8 Western Washington enters the week with an overall record of 21-3 and lead the GNAC with a 15-1 conference mark. The Vikings have won their past four and 15-of-16 following victories last week over the Crusaders and Wildcats.
Senior center Britt Harris leads the Vikings in scoring (15.1 ppg), and senior guard Trishi Williams leads WWU in assists (4.4 per game) and steals (2.9 per game). Offensively, the Vikings average 72.8 points per game as a team while allowing only 60.4 points per contest on defense.
Earlier this season, WOU dropped road contests at SFU and WWU.
Admission to each contest is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors while current WOU faculty, staff and students are admitted for free with a valid identification card.
