ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Western Oregon baseball team was unable to get anything going offensively as four Sonoma State pitcher combined to blank the Wolves, 7-0, in the opener of a four-game series on Friday afternoon. With the loss, WOU falls to 2-2 on the season while Sonoma State improves to 2-0.
Harmen Sidhu picked up the victory for Sonoma State, tossing 4.0 innings while allowing only two hits to move to 1-0 on the season. Ian Ocon, Stephen Zaharis and Jon Richards combined to allow only two hits the rest of the way as the Seawolves claimed the seven-run victory.
A.J. Burke took the loss for the Wolves and fell to 0-1 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Despite only getting four hits, the Wolves did leave 13 runners on base during the contest as WOU was unable to get the key hit and cut into the early Sonoma State lead.
Blake Miller reached base twice for the Wolves as the shortstop finished 1-for-4 while getting hit by a pitch.
The Seawolves grabbed an early 2-0 advantage when Sam Montgomery hit a two-run single to score Jackson Stoger and Stephen Filippi. The two-run lead would be all Sonoma State would need as Montgomery led the Seawolves in the win, going 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI.
WOU will look to rebound from the series opening loss when the Wolves face Sonoma State in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m.
