ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Western Oregon baseball team split a pair of contests with Sonoma State on Saturday, falling to the Seawolves, 5-2, in game one, before a 5-3 victory in game two of the doubleheader. With the split, WOU moves to 3-3 on the season.
After the game one loss, WOU used a five-run outburst in the sixth inning to overcome a three-run deficit and claim the game two victory while earning its first win in the four-game series.
Josh Wong had the key hit in the game two rally as his bases loaded triple in the sixth gave the Wolves a 5-3 lead.
Kody Stone shut the Seawolves down in the seventh for his first save of the season as
Zach Nuno earned the win to move to 1-0 on the year.
The rally marked a rebound from WOU's 5-2 loss to Sonoma State in the early game on Saturday.
Spenser Watkins took the loss for WOU in the second game of the series after allowing five runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work to move to 1-1 on the season.
Austin Wiggins picked up the win for Sonoma State after allowing no runs on three hits in three innings of work.
Steven Fillipi led SSU in the win, going 2-for-3 with a RBI as Sonoma State never trailed in the contest.
WOU will look to even the series when the Wolves face Sonoma State on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 11:00 a.m.
