Box Score MONMOUTH -- The Wolves had four players in double figures but it was not enough to stop Megan Hingston and the Crusaders as Northwest Nazarene rolled to a 73 – 62 victory over Western Oregon at the Physical Education Building Saturday afternoon. The loss drops WOU to 8-15, 3-10 in GNAC play; while NNU improves to 17-3, 9-3 in the GNAC.
The Crusaders led nearly start-to-finish after jumping to a 24-17 lead with 11:02 in the first and would extend that lead to 41-35 at the half. NNU would go on a 18-6 run to start the second half to lead 59-41 with 12:46 left in the game. The Wolves would close the gap to nine but get no closer.
Chantel Divilbiss led the Wolves with 14 points. Mellissa Fowler added 13 and
Lorrie Clifford and
Whitney Rodriguez tallied 12. Fowler also added 7 rebounds to lead the Wolves.
Hingston, Junior Guard from Keizer, Ore., was a force the Wolves could not stop as she tallied her 11
th double-double of the season after finishing with a team leading 31 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 61% from the field. Chelsie Luke added 9 points and Kylee Schierman pulled down 7 rebounds.
WOU led shooting wise with 46.9% from the field and 45.5% from beyond arc, holding the Crusaders to 41.1% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc. Northwest Nazarene held the rebounding edge 42-33 leading to 23 second-chance points.
The Wolves will look to rebound as they travel to play travel-partner Saint Martin's, Saturday, February 16. Tip-off is set for 7 PM in Lacey, Wash.
