Baseball unable to stop Otters in series opener

CSMB scores in every inning to cruise to a win over the Wolves.

Box Score SEASIDE, Calif. – The Western Oregon baseball team did not have an answer for the Cal State Monterey Bay offense as the Wolves fell to the Otters, 20-3, in the opener of a three-game series on Friday. With the loss, WOU fell to 11-9 on the season while CSMB improved to 16-8.

The Otters scored at least one run in every inning as Ronnie Fhurong led the CSMB attack, going 4-for-5 with two runs and a RBI.

Daniel McNabb went a perfect 4-for-4 for the Wolves; however, it was not enough to counter the Otters as the Wolves fell behind 6-0 following two innings.

Brian Haggett, Nick Parent and Jason Merjano had home runs for the Otters as CSMB had 24 hits against WOU pitching.

Spenser Watkins took the loss for WOU and fell to 3-3 on the season while Chris Daniels improved to 3-2 after allowing one run on seven hits in the victory.

WOU will look to rebound from the loss when the Wolves and Otters conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m.
