MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon baseball team concluded its important series with Central Washington on Saturday, splitting the doubleheader as the Wolves defeated the Wildcats, 1-0, in 10 innings in game one before falling in game two, 13-10. With the split, WOU moved to 17-13 overall, 12-4 in league play while the Wildcats are now 17-13 overall and one-game behind the Wolves in the league standings at 11-5.

WOU captured a pitcher's duel in game one as Tim Rausch's two-out RBI double in the bottom of the tenth inning scored Blake Miller from second for the only run of the game as the Wolves captured a 1-0 victory.

Both teams left nine runners on base in the contest as Taylor Hetrick picked up the win for WOU and moved to 1-0 on the season after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Willie Davies was the tough-luck loser in game one as he fell to 1-1 on the season after allowing one unearned run in 4.2 innings of relief.

A.J. Burke was brilliant for WOU as the Wolves starting pitcher as he allowed only five hits while striking out nine in the no decision.

Central Washington rebounded in game two; however, as the Wildcats scored 11 runs over the final three innings to grab a 13-10 victory. Kasey Bielec led the CWU attack, going 5-for-5 with four runs and two RBI while Daniel Kathman added three hits, two runs and five RBI for the Wildcats.

Blake Miller led WOU in the loss, going 4-for-5 with two runs and a RBI as the Wolves tried to mount several rallies in the late innings with CWU always managing to find an answer.

WOU had 14 hits in the loss while the Wildcats managed 18 hits off of six Wolves pitchers.

Brian Pisca took the loss for WOU and fell to 0-1 on the year after allowing two runs off of two hits in relief as Davis Engle picked up the win for CWU and moved to 2-1 on the year.

WOU will return to action on Saturday, April 6, when the Wolves travel to Billings, Mont., for the start of a four-game series against Montana State Billings at 12:00 p.m.
