MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this week as the Wolves host No. 24 Central Washington on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7:00 p.m. before a meeting with Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
WOU enters the week with a record of 3-6 on the season after the Wolves dropped four close decisions at the Oredigger Classic last week.
Cherene O'Hara leads the WOU attack heading into conference play, leading the squad with 81 kills while
Hannah Deede and
Christie Colasurdo are ranked second on the squad with 74 kills apiece.
The Wolves have been strong defensively through the first nine games of the season as WOU has held opponents to just a .188 attack percentage. After leading the league in blocks last year,
Becky Blees continues to excel in the area as the senior middle blocker leads the team with 46 overall and 1.28 blocks per set.
The nationally-ranked Wildcats enter league action with a 4-4 mark on the season after going 2-2 at the Oredigger Classic last week.
Emmy Dolan leads CWU with 86 kills as the Wildcats are holding opponents to an impressive .186 attack percentage.
Meanwhile, Northwest Nazarene enters with a mark of 4-2 record as the Crusaders have won nine straight sets, sweeping contests against Humboldt State, Holy Names and Cal State Los Angeles last weekend.
Last season, WOU swept a pair of matches from NNU; however, dropped two to Central Washington.
Admission to the matches is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors while WOU students are admitted for free with a valid identification card.
Following this weekend, WOU will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the Wolves host Concordia at 7:00 p.m.
