MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team returns to action this week for a mid-week, non-conference contest against Concordia at the New PE Building on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
The Wolves enter the contest with a 4-7 record on the season after WOU split a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches last week. WOU defeated No. 24 Central Washington, 3-2, before falling in a five-set decision to Northwest Nazarene, 3-2, on Saturday.
Hannah Deede led the Wolves in the victory over the Wildcats, nearly recording a triple-double with 16 kills, 12 blocks and eight digs. The 12 blocks tied a school record, equaling
Becky Blees mark from a season ago.
Deede and Blees lead a defense that averages 2.15 blocks per set as the duo ranks in the top four in the conference in the category. Blees leads the team and ranks third in the league with 1.30 blocks per set while Deede ranks fourth in the conference with 1.23 blocks per set.
Offensively, WOU is hitting .181 on the season as the Wolves are led by
Cherene O'Hara as she ranks 13th in the GNAC in hitting percentage at .258. Deede leads the team in kills with 101 while
Christie Colasurdo has added 100 for the Wolves.
Concordia enters the match with a record of 12-2 on the season as the Cavaliers have won 10 straight matches and 30-of-31 sets following a sweep of Oregon Tech on Saturday. The NAIA school is led by Brianna Hogan as she leads the Cavaliers with 144 kills while Concordia is hitting .240 as a team.
WOU owns a 35-1 record all-time against the Cavaliers; however, Concordia won the last match in the series during the 2000 season.
Following the mid-week match, WOU will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28, as the Wolves travel to Lacey, Wash., to face Saint Martin's at 7:00 p.m.
