MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team dropped a back-and-forth match to Metro State on Friday night, falling to the Roadrunners 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 12-5) as the Wolves fell for the first time this season. With the loss, WOU drops to 2-1 on the season while Metro State improves to 2-0.
The teams traded sets from the start as WOU would lose the marathon match after forcing a deciding set with a 25-20 win in game four.
Metro State responded with a 15-12 victory in the final set as ALysa Heath led the Roadrunners with a match-high 23 kills.
Hannah Deede and Chrere O'Hara led WOU with 11 kills apiece while Becky Bleese added six blocks in a losing cause.
Heath led three MSU players in double figure kills as she hit .405 for the match while Kylie Haun added 17 kills.
Jordin Ramos had 19 assists for WOU while Maddi Kuther led a balanced Wolves defensive attack with 14 digs.
Brandi Torr had 28 assists to lead the Roadrunners.
WOU will conclude action at the WOU Invitational when the Wolves face Minnesota State on Saturday. Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
