#WOUVolleyball Sweeps Falcons of Seattle Pacific

MONMOUTH, Ore. – In its next-to-last match of the season, Western Oregon University's volleyball team swept the visiting Falcons of Seattle Pacific University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-21), in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Thursday inside the New PE Building.

Colasurdo's performance is also the fourth highest total in a three-set match in GNAC history, as she was a mere three digs away from tying the record for a three-set match after Western Washington's Courtney Schneider tallied 35 digs against Central Washington during the 2006 season. Bettinson recorded a team-high nine kills, while Moore and Kalalau registered eight kills each. Jordin Ramos and Kiana Cash combined to hand out 31 assists with Colasurdo dishing out six assists of her own. At the net, Moore registered a match-high eight blocks with Cherene O'Hara aiding in the defensive effort with five blocks of her own.

Seattle Pacific (11-14, 5-12 GNAC) got a match-high 12 kills from Madi Cavell, while Jessica Miller added five kills for the Falcons. Sara Biondi handed out a match-high 26 assists for SPU, while Brianna Leenders anchored Seattle Pacific's defense with a team-high 17 digs. At the net, Cavell tallied five blocks to go along with a two-block night by Ellie Britt.

The opening set would see Western Oregon jumped out to a 9-4 lead on back-to-back hitting errors by SPU before the Falcons climbed back into the set with a 6-1 run that knotted things at 10-10 following a solo block by Cavell. Seattle Pacific would pull ahead by four points (18-14) on a kill by Britt before Western Oregon used a set-closing 11-5 run that resulted in a 25-23 victory on O'Hara's set-ending kill.

Set #2 would see both teams trade points over the opening 22 combined points until Western Oregon used a 5-0 run to pull ahead 16-11 on a combo block by Bettinson and Moore. Seattle Pacific would pull within five points (17-12) before Cash stepped behind the service line and served the final eight points. In the Wolves' set-closing 8-0 run three kills came from Bettinson to go along with a Cash service ace and five straight hitting errors by the Falcons for the 25-12 victory that handed Western Oregon a 2-0 lead in sets.

The third and final set would begin with Seattle Pacific building a 6-2 lead before Western Oregon tied things at 10-all on a ball handling error by the Falcons. After the two teams traded points back and forth resulting in a 13-13 tie, SPU scored three unanswered points forcing WOU to call its first timeout. Out of the break, Western Oregon used a 6-3 run to tie the score at 19-all before the Wolves scored three unanswered points to pull ahead by three points (22-19) on a kill by Moore. Despite Seattle Pacific getting within two points (22-20), Western Oregon closed out the set on a 3-1 run resulting in a 25-21 victory on a match-ending kill by Bettinson for WOU's three-set sweep.
