#WOUMBB Falls to Ducks in Exhibition Contest

EUGENE, Ore. – Two nights after picking up its first-ever win over a Pac 12 opponent, Western Oregon University's men's basketball team could not hold off a hot-shooting second half by the University of Oregon falling in the Wolves' final exhibition game of the season, 104-55, Sunday night inside Matthew Knight Arena.

Andy Avgi led the Wolves' offense with 13 points, while two other Western Oregon players scored in double figures with Devon Alexander contributing 11 points to go along with 10 by Jordan Wiley. Marwan Sarhan chipped in with seven points off the Wolves' bench with Julian Nichols pulling down four rebounds, while Alexander handed out a game-high five assists for WOU.

For Oregon, four Ducks scored in double figures led by Dwayne Benjamin with a game-high 22 points with Elgin Cook adding 19 points to go along with 17 points by Dillon Brooks and 11 from Joseph Young. Cook also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Oregon en route to registering a double-double, while Cook, Young, Jordan Bell, and Ahmaad Rorie handed out three assists each for the home team.

For the second game in a row, Western Oregon opened by scoring the first eight points en route to earning an 8-0 lead with 16:09 on the clock following a jumper by Lewis Thomas. Over the next three minutes, the Wolves pushed their lead to double digits (18-7) on a fast break jumper by Adam Hastings with exactly 13 minutes on the clock. Oregon would quickly get back into the game via a 12-1 run over a span of nearly four minutes, as the Ducks tied the game at 19-all with 9:22 on the clock. Western Oregon would take its final lead of the night (29-28) almost three minutes later when Wiley knocked down a three-pointer with 6:31 on the clock. Over the final six-plus minutes, Oregon closed the half on a 20-8 run en route to earning an 11-point lead (48-37) at halftime.

The second half would be controlled by Oregon, as the Ducks combined to shoot 23-for-30 (76.7%) from the field that included connecting on 22-of-23 shots from inside the three-point line. Western Oregon would start the final twenty minutes by cutting Oregon's lead to single digits (48-39) on a fast break lay-in by Wiley under one minute into the second half. Over the next three minutes, Oregon used a 9-0 run en route to earning an 18-point advantage (57-39) with 16:42 on the clock. Back-to-back lay-ins by Sarhan pulled Western Oregon back within 14 points (57-43) before Oregon closed out the game on a 47-12 run for the final margin.

As a team, Western Oregon combined to shoot 19-of-64 (29.7%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-25 (25.0%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 12-for-16 (75.0%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Oregon was a combined 40-for-61 (65.6%) from the field, 5-of-15 (33.3%) from long distance, and 19-of-25 (76.0%) at the charity stripe.

Western Oregon will return to the hardwood on Friday, November 14, against Point Loma Nazarene beginning at 7:30 p.m. as part of the GNAC/PacWest Challenge being playing inside Golden Gymnasium in San Diego, California.
