POSTGAME QUOTES

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University men's basketball team used a key 11-0 run late in the second half to pull away from Northwest Nazarene University Monday.

The Wolves (13-10, 6-7 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) won their second straight game by outscoring NNU, 13-1, in the final six minutes of the game. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but postponed due to inclement weather.

"We had a solid team performance," WOU Head Coach Brady Bergeson said. "We've got to be pleased with it. We came in and executed a game plan. As always would be against a good team, it's going to take 40 minutes to execute it, but we stuck with it, and we did just that."

Western Oregon, which won its second straight and third of its last four, handed NNU its seventh consecutive setback. The victory also avenged an 85-77 loss earlier this season at Northwest Nazarene. The Crusaders lost their fourth straight game at WOU, where they have not won since 2010.

Four Wolves finished with double-digit scoring, led by Rodney Webster's 15 points. Mirza Sabic made four of his three-pointers and finished with 14 points. Andy Avgi had his second double-double of the season, and third of his career, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Marwan Sarhan also added 12 points. Devon Alexander dished out five assists.

After shooting 48 percent in the second half, Western Oregon finished 40 percent from the field. In comparison, WOU held the Crusaders to 29 percent from the field in the second half, after they shot 43 percent in the first half. Western Oregon had a slim 35-33 edge on the glass, and scored 30 points in the paint. The Wolves scored 41 of the 50 bench points in the game, and scored all 10 fast break points.

The game featured three lead changes and three ties. Northwest Nazarene got out to an early 8-2 lead, but WOU responded with a 7-0 run. With the game tied at 13 with 10:58 remaining in the first half, the Crusaders hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a six-point lead. The Crusaders led for the rest of the half, by as many as seven, including 32-25 at halftime.

The Wolves improved to 3-7 when trailing at halftime this season. Western Oregon slowly chipped into the margin, as NNU led for the first nine minutes of the second half. A Sabic three-pointer gave the Wolves' their first lead of the half with 11 minutes left in regulation. WOU would not trail the rest of the game. The key 11-0 run followed, as Western Oregon held NNU scoreless over a four-minute stretch during the last six minutes of play.

The Crusaders' (5-15, 3-9 GNAC) Kevin Rima, Grayson Moore, and Mario Donaldson all scored 12 points. Rima also grabbed nine rebounds. After hitting eight three-pointers in the first half, NNU finished 10-of-27 in the game. It was also 10-for-16 from the free throw line.

The Wolves' lone game this week is at Saint Martin's (Wash.) Saturday. The Saints (8-13, 5-8) won the first meeting this season in Monmouth, 79-73. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be on WOUWolves.com.
