WOU Grabs Wins at Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – The Western Oregon University women's and men's track and field teams made the short trip to the Willamette Invitational Saturday, where they came away with several event titles.

Brady Beagley's time of 14:35.37 in the men's 5,000 meters was a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Div. II National Championships. The senior placed fifth in the race and automatically qualified for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. His time is the third best mark in program history. The time is also the fifth best in NCAA Div. II currently. Beagley already has the second best 1,500-meter time in the country.

Madison McClung ran a 12.29 in the women's 100 meters. The senior placed third in the event, but improved her automatic qualifying time for the GNAC Championships. She rose from fourth to second in the conference.

Tyrell Williams just missed the NCAA Div. II provisional qualifying mark in the men's 200 meters. He won the event and ran to a conference season-best, 21.89. His GNAC auto-mark is the ninth fastest time on the WOU all-time list. It was his second time running the race this season after finishing first at the Lane Preview with a time of 22.36. Jeff Howard placed third in the event Saturday, with a GNAC automatic qualifying time of 22.06.

Brett Campbell won the men's 110-meter hurdles. His time of 15.37 improved his provisional qualifying time for the conference championships. The senior was 0.03 shy from an automatic qualifying time. His previous season-best time of 15.54 was the eighth fastest time in the GNAC, but he now moves up to sixth. Dustin Camarillo placed third with a time of 15.68, another GNAC provisional mark.

In the women's shot put, Emmi Collier finished first with a top toss of 42-10.25 (13.06 meters). The sophomore already owns the GNAC auto-mark and is third in the conference with a top throw this season at 42-10.75.

Jeff Howard improved his 100-meter GNAC provisional qualifying time. He placed second in the event Saturday with a time of 10.85. His previous season-high mark of 10.95 was third in the conference, he now sits in second.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Zach Holloway came in third place with a time of 15:18.28. It provisionally qualifies him for the GNAC Championships with the sixth-best time this season in the conference.

Josh Hanna (1:55.07) and Ryan Hansen (1:55.22) placed second and third in the men's 800 meters. Audrey Hellesto (1:06.25) came in third in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Neil Gravatt was third in the men's javelin with a top throw of 171-3.75 (52.21m).

Western Oregon travels to the Bay Area next Saturday. The Wolves will split their squads between the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational.
