Box Score 2 NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Oregon University baseball team completed a four-game sweep with 12-1 and 8-4 victories at Northwest Nazarene University Saturday.
The Wolves' (27-15, 20-8 Great Northwest Athletic Conference)
Garret Harpole went 6-for-9 at the plate, with a home run and four doubles. He had six RBI and scored five times.
Nathan Etheridge and
Matt Taylor both had five hits and three RBI.
Eric Huson and
Jacob Storedahl grabbed wins on the mound. Western Oregon hit four home runs in Game 1.
Northwest Nazarene's lone score in the first game came on a solo home run in the opening inning. WOU responded with a pair of home runs in the top of the second. Harpole's fourth home run of the season brought in three runs, and Taylor's second home run scored two runs.
The Wolves added two runs in the fourth, before Etheridge and
Tim Rausch hit home runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Harpole hit an RBI double in the seventh for one of two runs, and WOU added one more run in the ninth.
Western Oregon outhit NNU, 15-6, and had two of the three errors in the game. The Crusaders stranded nine runners on base, while WOU left seven.
Huson (6-1) allowed one earned run on five hits. He struck out four Crusaders and walked two in eight innings. Noah Starr (1-4) was credited with the loss.
In the second game, the Wolves opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Harpole hit another RBI double and
Will Chavarria hit a sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Etheridge and Harpole both had RBI doubles and Chavarria scored on a run on a single. The Crusaders tallied two runs in the fourth.
Etheridge and Chavarria hit RBI singles in the fifth, along with an
Austin Hamilton RBI double. NNU (15-24, 11-15 GNAC) tacked on two runs in the sixth inning.
Taylor Hetrick threw the first 3.1 innings, before Storedahl (1-1) came in and closed the fourth inning. Three other Wolves made appearances on the mound. Andrew Groves (2-4) was credited with the loss.
Western Oregon returns home for its final conference series against Saint Martin's next weekend. The Wolves and SMU (13-26, 9-15) open the four-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
