FULL RESULTSELLENSBURG, Wash. – Western Oregon University track and field student-athlete,
Eric Gaines, finished fourth in the decathlon at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Multi-Event Championships Tuesday.
Gaines gets the WOU men off to a solid start for the conference championships, which are May 9-10 at McArthur Field, with five team points after his finish. The senior totaled 6,000 points in the 10-event two-day competition. He climbed from seventh after the first day.
Gaines was consistent in the middle of the pack, never dropping lower than seventh in an event. The Sandy, Ore. native, had his best finish in the final event, the 1,500 meters. He placed second in the event with a time of 4:33.23. He scored 724 points with that result. Gaines' highest point total came in the 400 meters. He amassed 736 points after a fourth place finish with a time of 51.74.
Emily Moe placed ninth in the women's heptathlon. The freshman finished with 3,611 points in the seven-event competition over two days. She was 10th after the first day.
Moe's best point total came in the first event, the 100-meter hurdles. She totaled 626 points with a time of 16.74. Moe's best finish was in the javelin on Tuesday. She came in fourth with a top mark of 101-2 (30.83 meters).
The Wolves will complete their regular season Friday at the Pacific Twilight in Forest Grove and the OSU High Performance meet in Corvallis.
