MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University soccer team opens its 2014 schedule against Humboldt State (Calif.) Saturday. It's also the home opener for the Wolves.

ABOUT THE JACKS
Humboldt State will be playing its second game of the season in Monmouth, after opening the schedule at Western Washington on Thursday. The Lumberjacks return a bulk of experienced players in 2014. HSU will have captains Lizzie Mitchell and Colette Behen lead a quality group of returners and large group of talented newcomers into the year. Head Coach Paul Karver enters his second season at the helm of the program. Humboldt State went 3-12-3 overall last year and 1-12-3 in the CCAA. HSU was picked last in the conference preseason poll. The Jacks are looking for their first winning season since 2006.

* Last year's nine wins were the most in seven years, and the overall record was the best since 2002.
* WOU has split its last 10 season-opening matches, and is 2-1 in openers under Ancheta.
* The Wolves ended 2013 with their second straight trip to the GNAC Championships.
* Western Oregon welcomes back seven starters from their final game in 2013, and 14 letterwinners from last season.
* WOU has seven student-athletes from Washington, six from Oregon, five from Hawaii, three from California and one from Idaho.
* Fourteen of the 23 Wolves on the 2014 roster are upperclassmen.
* Western Oregon returns a quintet of All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selections.
* The Wolves' schedule features 18 games, with eight being played in Monmouth.
* Seven of WOU's home contests are against Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents.
* WOU finished the season losing only one game at home.
* Western Oregon outscored opponents 13-1 on the WOU Soccer Field in 2013.
* The Wolves have won 17 of the 23 games when they scored first under Ancheta. They are also 14-3 under Ancheta when leading at halftime.
* Conversely, WOU is winless under Ancheta when trailing at halftime (0-4-0) and when opponents score first (0-8-2).
* Amanda Rose Johnson is fourth on the WOU all-time list for shutouts in a career.
