Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University volleyball team remained unbeaten this season after fighting off Western Oregon University in a thrilling four-set match at the PacWest/GNAC Crossover Thursday, 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, and 29-27.
The Silverswords (5-0) beat WOU for the first time in program history, as the Wolves had won the previous four matchups. In the second match of the tournament, Chaminade jumped out to a two-set lead over the Wolves, but then had to stave off a WOU rally late in the match.
Chaminade cruised to victories in the first and second set. Western Oregon then took the third frame. The Wolves had four set points in the fourth set, but CU managed to escape with its fifth win if the season.
The Silverswords had a .206 to .131 attack percentage advantage and had a 62-45 edge in kills. Chaminade also held a nine to eight edge in blocks, the first opponent to have more blocks than WOU in a match this season.
Madalene Barrett and Cassie Rushlow combined for 31 terminations for the Silverswords. Valentin Bevilacqua and Natasha Enos both finished with double-doubles. Bevilacqua recorded 34 assists and 23 digs, while Enos had 11 digs and 10 assists. Waihilo Chartrand added 19 digs. Ku`ulei Lynch totaled five blocks. Reigna Johnson had a pair of service aces.
Western Oregon's (1-4) Charene O'Hara and
Hannah Deede had 12 and 10 kills. Deede also had five blocks.
Jordin Ramos had a double-double of 17 assists and 10 digs.
Jaryn Ramos recorded a match-high 26 digs.
Christie Colasurdo added 12.
Alisha Bettinson had three service aces.
The Wolves face both Academy of Art and Fresno Pacific Friday. The first match against Academy of Art is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. The FPU match is at 4 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
