SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Western Oregon University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the PacWest/GNAC Crossover hosted by Dominican University.
 
In the first match of the day, Academy of Art (4-2) cruised to a three-set sweep over the Wolves, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22. Melissa Brum had a match-high 16 kills. Rachel Smith dished out 38 of the Knights' 45 assists. Emily Papale had 14 digs, while Brum and Isabel Emrich both recorded 10 digs.
 
The Urban Knights finished with a .305 attack percentage, but WOU had its second best percentage of the season at .252. Academy of Art had a slight edge in kills, 48-39. The Wolves committed seven service errors, while AAU had five. WOU did have a 4-2 advantage in blocks.
 
Charene O'Hara led Western Oregon with 11 kills. Jordin Ramos and Kiana Cash combined for 32 assists. Alisha Bettinson had 10 digs. Ramos and Bettinson both had a pair of service aces. Sam Moore had three block assists.
 
Fresno Pacific University was able to take a three-setter from the Wolves in WOU's second match of the day. FPU hit .270 in the match and held Western Oregon to .040. The Sunbirds also had a 43-26 advantage in kills. Both teams committed six service errors.
 
In a match that featured only five ties and three lead changes, Fresno Pacific controlled the momentum. Rupia Inck finished with a match-high 10 kills for FPU. Bissie DenHartog had 34 assists. Hannah Butler recorded 16 digs. Toni Murphy had two service aces.
 
Moore totaled six kills and four assisted blocks for the Wolves (1-6). Ramos and Cash combined for 22 of WOU's 25 assists. Sheila Limas De La Cruz recorded 12 digs. O'Hara also had four assisted blocks.
 
Western Oregon wraps up the tournament against the host, Dominican, Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
