Box Score SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific University volleyball team escaped with a five-set victory over Western Oregon University Thursday, 22-25,25-19, 15-25, 25-18, and 15-12.
The Falcons (8-2, 2-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) had to hold off a feisty WOU team. Western Oregon had a .220 to .129 attack percentage advantage, but it was SPU that came away with the win. The Wolves also dominated the net with 10 team blocks to Seattle Pacific's zero. The Falcons did have a 57-48 edge in kills, and committed 10 service errors, while WOU had 15.
Seattle Pacific's Madi Cavell hit a match-high 29 kills. Her total is the highest in the GNAC currently this season. Sara Biondi recorded 42 of the Falcons' 55 assists. Cavell and Biondi both had double-doubles adding 19 and 13 digs. Brianna Leenders totaled 18 digs.
The match featured 31 ties and 10 lead changes. Western Oregon finished with a better attack percentage in every set except the fourth. But, SPU came away with the home victory.
The Wolves (2-8, 0-2 GNAC) were led by
Alisha Bettinson's 12 kills.
Cherene O'Hara added 10 terminations.
Kiana Cash and
Jordin Ramos both finished with double-doubles. Cash had 23 assists and 10 digs. Ramos finished with 17 assists and 10 digs.
Jaryn Ramos recorded a match-high 28 digs, while
Christie Colasurdo had 11. Deede and
Maddi Ober both had five assisted blocks.
Western Oregon returns to Monmouth for its home opener against Northwest Nazarene Saturday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
