Box Score SEATTLE – The Western Oregon University volleyball team opened its 2014 schedule with a four-set loss to Cal State-Los Angeles Thursday, 25-19, 26-28, 19-25, 18-25, in the opening match of the First Serve tournament hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
The Wolves jumped out to an early lead after winning the opening set, but CSULA used a thrilling second set victory to sway the momentum in the match. Cal State-L.A. (1-0) rallied from deficits in the second and fourth frames in the win.
Kymberly Silveyra and Iona Lofrano combined for 39 of the Golden Eagles' 54 kills. Silveyra had 20 kills with a .436 attack percentage. Lofrano finished with a double-double, adding 15 digs. Sydney Kralj dished out a match-high 28 assists. Kelsey Molnar added 10 assists. April Reyes had 15 digs.
Cal State-L.A. had a 54-43 advantage in kills, and hit at a .233 percentage to Western Oregon's .142. The Golden Eagles had an 8-4 edge in service aces, but also committed 12 service errors to nine for Western Oregon. The Wolves had the edge in blocks, 7-4.
Christie Colasurdo led Western Oregon (0-1) with nine kills. She also had 11 digs.
Jaryn Ramos recorded a team-high 17 digs in her collegiate debut. Another freshman,
Kiana Cash, led the Wolves' with 21 assists.
Jordin Ramos had 14 assists and 11 digs.
Western Oregon faces Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the sixth match of the tournament. It will be the 12th meeting between the programs, with the Broncos winning eight all-time. Live video and stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
