ANCHORAGE, Alsaka – The Western Oregon volleyball team dropped its season finale Saturday night in straight sets to Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion Alaska Anchorage. Scores for the match were 25-21, 25-16, 25-11.

Alaska Anchorage pulled away from the Wolves in the first set after a 12-12 stalemate over the first 24 points. WOU pulled back with two points at 22-20, but the Seawolves took three of the final four points to nab game one.

Set two saw substantial point runs, first from UAA for a 5-2 advantage before the Wolves responded with a 5-1 spurt to lead 7-6. The game remained close with the hosts leading 18-16, but seven consecutive points handed the 25-16 decision to Anchorage.

The third set was the catalyst for a league championship celebration as UAA scored the first eight points. Western Oregon managed only five kills while committing nine errors. A kill by Caitlyn Hanson wrapped up the match, the conference championship and (likely) hosting honors for the upcoming West Regional.

Alisha Bettinson had seven kills to top the Wolves.
Amanda Short had one solo block and two block assists.
Christie Colasurdo had a match-high 22 digs while
Leila Holt added 10 digs and 17 assists.

Western Oregon closes out the year with a 8-21 overall record and tied for eighth in the GNAC with a 5-15 league mark.
