TO VIEW THE FINAL HEAT SHEETS, CLICK HERENAMPA, Idaho – The 12th annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place this weekend – Friday and Saturday, February 20-21 – on the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Ford Sports Complex in Western Idaho.
Western Oregon University's track and field teams will both be competing this weekend, as the Wolves are sending a combined 49 student-athletes to the meet.
On the men's side, Western Oregon is a six-time champion that includes five straight from 2008-12 as the Wolves won the inaugural title in 2004 as well.
Junior middle distance runner
Josh Hanna enters this weekend's championship as the defending 800 meter champion after posting a race-winning time of 1:54.19 last year
There are four individuals – Hanna, senior
Brady Beagley, junior
Sam Naffziger, and freshman
Cody Warner – so far this season that have posted provisional times for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship that will take place March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama, while the Wolves' DMR team has also posted a provisional time.
Hanna and Naffziger posted their times in the 800 meter run, while Warner qualified in the 60 meter dash and Beagley in the mile run.
On the women's side, Western Oregon will be attempting to unseed two-time defending conference champions Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves snapped Seattle Pacific's run of nine straight titles in 2013 taking home its first title in program history.
In the 11-year history of the championship, Western Oregon has had one Athlete of the Year (Ashley Potter, 2012), one Newcomer of the Year (Ashley Potter, 2010), and one Freshman of the Year (Sarah Kathrine, 2010).
The Wolves have two student-athletes that are close to reaching provisional marks in senior
Rebecca Laible in the triple jump and junior
Emmi Collier in the shot put. Laible is 0.50 meters away and Collier is a mere 0.07 meters away from qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
