@WOUBaseball Opens Series With Loss to No. 2-Ranked Lewis-Clark State

LEWISTON, Idaho – In the series opener for Western Oregon University's baseball team against the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Lewis-Clark State College, the Wolves could muster only six hits in an 11-0 loss at the hands of the Warriors Friday at Harris Field.

Senior Matt Taylor led Western Oregon (2-11) offensively with a pair of hits, while four other Wolves – senior Marcus Hinkle, senior Garret Harpole, junior Adam Bloom, and junior Brandon Oliver – also registered a hit for WOU. Senior Jesse Pratt got the start for Western Oregon allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work before turning the ball over to the bullpen that consisted of junior Tyler Bennett and junior Cody Allison. Bennett and Allison combined to allow five earned runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Lewis-Clark State (9-3) had four players register two-or-more hits led by Seth Brown with two hits and four runs batted in that included his fourth home run of the season, while Cabe Reiten also scored three runs and drove in three RBI on three hits. On the mound, Beau Kerns went the distance allowing six hits with a game-high nine strikeouts for the Warriors.

After a scoreless first inning, Lewis-Clark State started its run scoring with a single run in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly before adding three more runs one inning later on Brown's aforementioned home run with a pair of runners on base resulting in a 4-0 lead for the home team.

In the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, Lewis-Clark State added seven more runs on five hits resulting in the final score of 11-0 for the Warriors in the series opener.

Both teams will continue play tomorrow – Saturday, February 21 – in an afternoon double header that begins at noon at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.
