MONMOUTH, Ore. – Opening play in the 2015 Western Oregon Volleyball Invitational, the host Wolves ran its winning streak to two matches after recording a 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18) victory over previously unbeaten Adelphi University at the New P.E. Building. WOU improved to 2-4, while the Panthers are now 4-1 overall.

Western Oregon was led by
Alisha Bettinson, who recorded a career-high 22 kills on 47 attempts for .468 hitting. Two other Wolves had eight kills –
Amanda Short and
Mariella Vandenkooy. Short shined from the service line with five aces.

WOU hit .282 as a team for the match while recording 10 blocks, including six of the solo variety. The Wolves came back from down 23-20 in the first set to snatch away the opening set. The visiting Panthers took the second set after committing just four attack errors. WOU took advantage of 11 AU mistakes in the third set. A 5-0 spurt in the fourth set gave the Wolves all the momentum they needed for the match win.

Day two of the WOU Volleyball Invitational will see the Wolves play twice. At 2:30 p.m., Western Oregon hosts Chico State and then will close out the day with a 7:30 p.m. match against Wisconsin-Parkside, who fell to fellow GNAC-school Concordia on Thursday, 3-0.
