How It Happened
Western Oregon took an early 7-2 lead off a 3-pointer from Jordan Wiley, a jump shot from Andy Avgi and a driving lay-up by Devon Alexander. Simon Fraser countered later in the first half, breaking a 14-14 tie with a 14-6 run to build their biggest lead of the night.

WOU found its offensive groove over the final five minutes of the half to take a slim advantage into the break, 42-39. Both teams shot over 45 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

The game was decided with a 33-12 Western Oregon run spanning the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Wiley began the rally with a wide-open 3 -pointer produced by a fine extra pass by Julian Nichols. Alex Roth scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, including a pair of lay-ins after offensive rebounds underneath the basket. Long shots from Avgi and Kadeem Strickland closed the vital stretch.

WOU reserves saw ample playing time and extended the Wolves' lead to as many as 29 points.

Wolves' Top Performers
  • Andy Avgi led all scorers on the night with 20 points in 27 minutes. He fell a rebound shy of his sixth career double-double. Avgi was 8-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.
  • Alex Roth tied his WOU career-best with 18 points hitting seven shots and four free throws. He and Tanner Omlid each had six rebounds.
  • Jordan Wiley went 3-of-5 from downtown to post 10 points in 27 minutes.
  • Julian Nichols played 25 minutes. He scored seven points, pulled down five rebounds and dished off three assists.
  • Leading the scoring off the bench were Kadeem Strickland with eight points, Janvier Alaby with six points (six rebounds), Omlid with six points, and Nick Nestell with five points (three assists).

For the Clan
  • Michael Harper went 6-of-10, including three shots behind the arc, to lead Simon Fraser with 17 points.
  • Andrew Williamson finished with 15 points.
  • Max Barkeley, the SFU leading scorer heading into the game, did not play.

Stats of the Game
  • The Wolves dominated the battle of the boards, 47-27.
  • After an even first half, WOU flourished offensively in the second half to oustcore the Clan, 48-28. Western Oregon shot 58.1 percent (18-of-31) over the final 20 minutes while SFU was held to 8-of-26 (30.8 percent).
  • The painted area was friendly to the Wolves on Thursday. WOU held a 50-28 points in the paint advantage.
  • The Wolves assisted on 13 of their 36 buckets.
