STORYLINES
- Western Oregon heads up to the 49th state in an attempt to climb up the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with games at Alaska Anchorage on Thursday and Alaska (Fairbanks) on Saturday.
- Thursday's tip is at 7:30 p.m. Alaska Time (8:30 p.m. Pacific) while the game on Saturday is set for a start time of 5:15 p.m. Alaska (6:15 p.m. Pacific).
- The Wolves are looking for their second win over a nationally ranked team when they face UAA. The previous win was against No. 8 Seattle Pacific at home on Jan. 22, 2015 by a score of 67-62.
ABOUT WESTERN OREGON
- Last time out: WOU played two close GNAC games and finished the week with an overall scoring margin of just one point on the negative side of the ledger. The Wolves defeated Simon Fraser 58-57 after Ali Nelke made a pair of late charity shots and the defense held off three SFU attempts for the go-ahead basket. Western Washington was able to come back from as many as 14 points to defeat WOU, 61-59, last Satruday.
- Emily Howey posted double figures in each game – 14 vs. SFU and 12 against WWU. Natalie DeLonge average 9.5 rebounds for the week.
- WOU is scoring 56.7 points per game while, in comparison, holding opponents to 67.3 points per contest.
- Head coach Holli Howard-Carpenter is in her third year at Western Oregon.
- Western Oregon was picked to finish 10th in the GNAC regular season title by the league's coaches after finishing ninth in the league with a 5-13 conference record in 2014-15.
ABOUT ALASKA ANCHORAGE
- Alaska Anchorage went 13-0 in non-conference play and has started GNAC action with one loss at Western Washington. The Seawolves are ranked second in the WBCA poll and fourth in the D2SIDA media poll.
- The Seawolves are the GNAC leaders in both scoring offense (85.1 ppg) and scoring defense (54.5 ppg). UAA is outscoring teams by 30.6 points per game, with a season best 70-point win (122-52) on Nov. 13 against Dixie State.
- Megan Mullings paces UAA with 16.9 points per game, shooting .658 from the floor. Seven players on the squad are averaging five or more points per game.
- Reigning GNAC and West Region Coach of the Year Ryan McCarthy is in his fourth season.
ABOUT ALASKA
- The Nanooks are 5-9 overall on the season, but have started league play 0-4. In last week's lone game for Alaska, they dropped a 59-55 decision to Montana State Billings at home.
- Four players are averaging more than 19 points per game, led by 15.6 points from Jordan Wilson and 15.2 points from Stephanie Toumson.
- UAF is scoring 70.7 points per game as a club, shooting .376 from the field and .267 from 3-point land.
- Cody Bench is in her fourth years as head coach.
