WOU overpowered in three sets at Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. – Western Oregon volleyball ran into a hot Concordia offense on Tuesday night, dropping a three-set decision to the Cavaliers.

Match Summary
  • The Cavaliers hit an impressive .357 on the night (44 kills, nine errors) while forcing 16 WOU errors (.153 hitting).
  • Concordia sprinted out of the gate scoring the first four points of the match. Western Oregon pulled within eight, 16-8, before CU scored four straight. Western Oregon put together a 5-0 run late with a Mariella Vandenkooy kill, two CU setting errors, a combined block from Paige Orth & Amanda Short, and an attack error to get within five.
  • In the second set, WOU grabbed an early lead, but saw it evaporate midway through the game. Down 16-12, WOU got within two points on a service error and kill from setter Maddie Mehciz. Concordia would score the next three points and later add another three-point spurt to hold off the Wolves.         
  • Concordia seized momentum scoring seven of eight points to build a 9-3 lead. WOU cut an eight-point lead in half with kills from Vandenkooy, Sydney Blankinship and Short to make the game 14-10. But the margin would be as close as the Wolves would get. Concordia closed out the match with six consecutive points to win the third game, 25-14.
